How can I get a linskys wireless usb adapter to stay connected when the computer goes idle?

Right now I have a linskys wireless USB that connects me to the internet. However, everytime my computer goes dile i loose the connection through this adapter so in order to restore the internet I need to unplug and reinsert the USB adapter and then it works fine. How can I get the internet to stay connected through this adapter without having to re-plug it in every time?

You must turn off sleep mode. Put to never. If you use Vista, go to control panel -> power option -> change setting plan

    You must set the properties of the router iteself to do this.
    With a CAT5 cable connected to the Internet slot (not one of the computer slots), open browser and type address '192.168.1.1' (this may be slightly diff't; look up the Linksys help site): in the properties section, get to the 'connection' topics, and check or enable the 'connected all the time' or similar wording.
    While in this configuration, also TURN OFF UPNP; give the router itself a username & password (default is none); and enable WPA encryption. Write down all these passwords and keep it safe and seperate from your computer.

    Want to give this a try?
    - Find your wireless internet connection in the system tray (beside the clock). Double-click on it.
    - Your "Wireless Network Connection Status" dialog will appear. Click the "Properties" button.
    - At the top of the "Wireless Network Connection Properties" on the "General" tab, you'll see "Connect using:" and the name of your wireless adapter. Click the "Configure..." button to the right of that text box. The "Wireless Network Connection Properties" will close and your device configuration for the network card will open.
    - On the configuration dialog for your network card, go to the last tab called "Power Management". UNCLICK all checkboxes, especially "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
    - Click "OK" to confirm your settings change.

    It might not be the root cause, but it's a good place to start. HTH

    Throw the linksys adapter away and get urself dlink, belkin or any better brand. LINKSYS SUCKS!
